| Koestler Exhibition - Royal Albert Hall |

The Arts Society Rickmansworth has helped to sponsor a major art exhibition of works created by prisoners and young offenders. These are on display until 18th December in an annual exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall, created by Koestler Arts, which promotes art work in prisons. The great Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei has expertly curated this terrific exhibition. This is the second year that the Arts Society Rickmansworth has sponsored Koestler Arts. The art work has been distilled from more than 6000 entries from all over the UK, and some has come from the Mount prison in Bovingdon. At a recent viewing of the exhibition by TASR Members, expertly guided by ex-prisoners, the Chairman of TASR, Rickmansworth resident Gill Gowing, said; “My Society is really pleased to support the Koestler Trust in this important work. The exceptional quality of the paintings, sculpture and poetry displays the skill and dedication of those who have produced it. I know that many prisoners feel real pride and renewed purpose from participating in this creative work.” Koestler Arts (formerly The Koestler Trust) was established in 1962 and is the best known prison arts charity. It encourages people in the criminal justice system to change their lives by participating in the arts. Search Koestlerarts.org.uk. Click here to see a selection of photographs of the art and of TASR Chairman Gill Gowing shown with Mali Clements, Koestler Arts Development Director at the Royal Festival Hall ‘Freedom’ exhibition.
